Natalie’s Quick Tip Nutrition Guide

Does your on-the-run diet need a tune up? A fast paced family life can sabotage our very best intentions for eating healthy and getting more in tune with our bodies.

Here are a few simple tips that are easy to implement, starting today.

  1. Eat Breakfast! Skipping breakfast can make it more difficult to control both your diet and your weight. A good breakfast will boost your metabolism and give you the energy needed to start your day.
  2. Eat Balanced Meals. Two-thirds of the meal should be comprised of whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and one-third a type of protein-rich food.
  3. Don’t skip the carbs, they are an essential ingredient for an effective workout.
  4. Go natural.  Skip out on the trans-fat and other health-eroding ingredients and go for foods in their natural unprocessed state, such as whole-wheat bread rather than white bread or baked potatoes rather than French Fries.  Don’t try to change everything all at once. Every little improvement to your eating habits will make you feel better from the inside out.
  5. Mix it up! The more variety you incorporate into your day, the wider the range of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you consume. Challenge yourself by trying to include 35 different foods per week into your diet!
  6. Eat locally grown foods whenever possible.
  7. Eat even sized meals every 4 hours to avoid eating more as the day progresses.
  8. Eat in moderation. Whether you exercise a little or a lot, you still need to follow a healthy, balanced diet. Don’t skip meals!
  9. Refuel. One of the best things you can do to prepare for your next workout is eat a small meal that includes both carbohydrates and protein.
  10. Hydrate!
